Let’s Talk: UVA to Hold ‘Diversity Dialogues’ Nov. 5 and 6

Diversity Dialogues is a series of workshops where students, faculty, and staff will engage in dialogues on topics related to diversity and inclusion, with the goal of unifying efforts across Grounds and creating a more inclusive UVA. Gibbons House Dedication Memorializes Former Slaves, Successful Free Lives

In June, the University of Virginia dedicated a new dorm honoring William and Isabella Gibbons. William and Isabella Gibbons were husband and wife, butler and cook, enslaved by different University of Virginia professors until 1865. After emancipation, Isabella became a teacher for more than 20 years. William became a well-known minister in Charlottesville and in Washington, D.C. (READ MORE)
